Circus therapy for kids with CP
« Thread Started on Nov 20, 2008, 10:40pm »

hmmm...I never heard of such a thing...

A lovely story on ABC radio's AM program about an innovative new form of therapy for children with hemiplegia. Fot the past month, children with CP have been learning to juggle, fly the trapeze and perform impressive balancing acts.

The circus-therapy pilot project is the brainchild of researcher Ros Boyd from the University of Queensland. Circus acts require children to use both hands, so the children with hemiplegia are using both sides of their body for their performances. Researchers are also encouraging children to use their non-dominant hands through a form of constraint-induced movement therapy; where the child has a glove on their preferred hand.

Read a transcript of the story, or listen to the audiocast on the ABC website.
